A message from Superintendent Quesnel:

September 25, 2019

Good morning:

I am writing with an important message to our parents and guardians regarding the threat of mosquito borne viruses such as Eastern Equine Encephalitis also known as Triple E.  The mosquitos that carry this virus are active until the first heavy frost.

We are implementing a 5:30 pm end time for school sponsored outdoor activities effective immediately.  The East Hartford High School Soccer game scheduled for Thursday, September 26th will now begin at 3:45 pm and the Football game scheduled for this Friday, September 27th at 6:30 has been rescheduled to Saturday, September 28th at 11:00 am.

As always, it is up to your discretion whether to allow your child to participate in outdoor activities. Our schools do not provide insect repellent, so you will need to determine if applying insect repellent to your child’s skin or clothing prior to school is appropriate.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact your child’s school principal or nurse.

In coordination with the Town, we would like to remind you of the importance of taking personal protective measures to avoid contact with mosquitos.  Wear long sleeves and pants when the weather permits, apply insect repellent containing DEET before going outdoors, and minimize outdoor activity in the evening when mosquitos are most active.
