EHPS Community Gives Thanks and Gives Back

Across East Hartford, EHPS school staff, students and families have been working to ensure our neighbors don’t go without this Thanksgiving. These independent efforts at every school in the district have an amazing collective impact on the community, all while teaching our children about giving back.

At Pitkin School, the PTO organized a food drive in collaboration with Remembering Ryan, Inc. Each of the grade levels donated different non-perishable food items in order to put together and hand out 18 Thanksgiving dinners.

At Synergy Alternative High School, working with InterCommunity Health Care and other community partners, they funded around two dozen Thanksgiving dinners to give back to Synergy families, which students then delivered.

These are just two examples of the Thanksgiving food drives and requests for donations at our schools that have yielded impressive and heartwarming results. In addition to around 200 total turkeys, EHPS schools gathered stacks of side dishes, desserts, and other foods to fill families’ pantries.

Many of these donations would not be possible without the additional support from the East Hartford community. Local businesses, places of worship, and our InterCommunity School Based Health Centers contributed their time, donations and funds to support families in need.

As EHPS breaks for the Thanksgiving holiday, we are thankful to all of the generous individuals who help make this community a great place to learn.
