EHPS Announces New Principal of Woodland School

East Hartford Public Schools is proud to announce the new principal of Woodland School, Rodney Powell. He will begin his role on July 1, 2024.

An experienced leader in alternative education, Powell joins East Hartford Public Schools from Danbury Public Schools where he is currently the Principal for Reach High School/Endeavor Middle School. Prior to his work in Danbury, Powell served as Principal and Director of Academic Services for the nonprofit Our Piece of the Pie, Inc. in Hartford for 8 years. Powell’s professional background also includes leading special and alternative education schools in Maryland. He started his career at Baltimore Public Schools as a special education teacher.

Powell holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Thought and Political Economy from UMass Amherst and a Master of Arts in Leadership in Teaching from Notre Dame of Maryland University. He is currently pursuing his doctorate at Northeastern University.

East Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Thomas Anderson said, “Rodney Powell, a passionate educator and committed leader, is dedicated to positively impacting the teaching and learning process and students’ overall well-being.
